Motorcycle Accident, October 2006....

On Thursday, October 12, 2006, I broadsided, a.k.a. "T-Boned," a car with my motorcycle. Both the motorcycle and I suffered from the experience.

Slosh > This appeared in the local newspaper the following morning. That's me on the ground. You can also see the car that I ran into, a little bit of my bike after it was returned to the upright position, and on the right side of the picture may be the 16 year old girl who abruptly stopped my 35mph forward movement by placing her car in my way. She tried to cross the road I was on, but she never saw me, and I slammed into her passenger door.

$Slosh > I was taken to the Emergency Room at Community Hospital (not St. Mary's, as was stated in the newspaper), and there I was treated for a fractured left wrist, a possibly sprained right thumb, and . . .$

Slosh > . . . a very traumatzed knee. The xrays of my knee didn't show any broken bones, but I would soon be having an MRI done to see if there was any torn stuff: ligaments, tendons, cartilage, etc. The knee swelled to the size of a bowling ball. I am VERY fortunate that I didn't sustain far more serious injuries. I'm telling this guy how to apply the immobilizing brace and ice to my leg in this photo (like he doesn't know how).

Slosh > I spent a sleepless night (MAJOR pain) at the hospital and they released me late this afternoon, Friday, October 13. My knee hurt quite a bit and, as you can see, was quite swollen. It got caught between the car and the moving-at-35mph gas tank.

Slosh > No comments on how pathetic my okay knee looks.

Slosh > Slept a little bit during the night . . . wasn't feelin' too good the next day, Saturday, October 14, but was still amazed and thankful that I wasn't any worse off than what you see here. But don't get me wrong, I still wasn't pleased with the situation. My landlords were kind enough to fix me a delicious breakfast that morning and the neighbor lady made me some exquisite soup for dinner.

Slosh > I had no idea, yet, what condition my motorcycle was in . . . it was towed off to the tower's yard. I was thinking that I would be very surprised if it could be made safely roadworthy again. BTW, the leather jacket that I'd had for many years, and absolutely loved, had to be cut up and cut off me so they could start sticking tubes into me while I was in the ambulance (click here to see the jacket a few days before the accident). Major bummer.

Slosh > This photo was taken on Sunday, October 15. I'd been hearin' a lot of, "Hey, Dave . . . show some more leg!"

Slosh > Not only was my injured knee swelling . . . the rest of my skinny leg, including the foot, was now swelling. I would be getting an MRI in the next couple days.
