Right Eye Retinal Laser Welding, 2006....

On Friday, September 15, 2006 I went to see my eye surgeon, Dr. Waterhouse, to have some preventive maintenance done on weak spots on the retina of my right eye.

Slosh > First, I became somewhat relaxed as I looked at this aquarium, although there don't seem to be many fish in it.

Slosh > Then I was brought into this room that gives the appearance of being a place where they eventually get the truth out of a person.

Slosh > Then I had my right eye zapped about a zillion times with a laser to weld the retina to the wall of the eye. The laser is controlled by this little box. After about the first 75 zaps, I mentioned to Dr. Waterhouse that the numbing drops didn't seem to be doing much good as I was beginning to feel some discomfort bordering on pain. So he gave me a shot in the area of the eye, which made me wish that I hadn't said anything, but then the eye became as numb as a person could want who was having his eye zapped about a zillion times with a laser controlled by this little box.

Slosh > So, once again, I have an eye with a bandage on it. The bandage comes off in the morning, though. Coincidentally, I am wearing the same shirt that I wore when I had intensive surgery for a detached retina in my left eye (click here for a photo of that). The healing time for what I had done today is a matter of days, unlike the healing time of months for what I had done to the left eye. I'm kinda glad that I don't have any more eyes.

Slosh > As of Sunday, September 17, my right eye still hurts some from the laser welding done on Friday. Pretty bloodshot and the pupil is still a little dilated. My left eye continues to be somewhat bloodshot since the retinal detachment surgery done on May 31, 2006. You can also see how the pupil is no longer round, but kind of potato shaped, and as I've mentioned before, it no longer responds to light. You can also see the triangular black area in the lower part of my left eye, which is from an injury caused by a bee-bee gun when I was 10 years old. I don't know what the dark area in the upper part of my left eye is from...I just noticed it. I also had cataract surgery and implants done a few years ago on both eyes. It's amazing that I can see as well as I do.
